Best eco-friendly paint options for high humidity areas: A comparison focusing on mildew resistance

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving deep into the world of natural paints for my bathroom renovation, and I’m on the hunt for the best eco-friendly paint that can stand up to high humidity and resist mildew. I’ve tried a couple of brands already, like Eco Paints and BioShield, which both claim to be great for moisture-prone areas. However, I’m curious about your experiences. Have any of you used Auro or Earthborn paints in similar conditions?

I’m particularly interested in how these paints perform over time. For instance, I used BioShield’s Clay Paint in my kitchen, and while it’s held up beautifully against splashes and steam, I’m wondering if it’s the best choice for constant humidity. Also, how do these paints fare on different surfaces? My bathroom has a mix of plaster and previously painted walls, so compatibility is key.

Lastly, I’m all about minimizing environmental impact, so any insights into the sustainability practices of these brands would be super helpful. Let’s share our findings and help each other make informed, eco-conscious choices for our homes. What’s your go-to natural paint for high humidity areas, and why?

I’ve been using Earthborn paints for a couple of years now, especially in my bathroom and kitchen. Their Eggshell No. 28 has been a game-changer for me. It’s not only eco-friendly but also stands up well to high humidity. I haven’t noticed any mildew, and it’s been over a year since I painted. The finish is still as good as new. Highly recommend giving it a try!

@GreenThumbJenny It adheres really well to both plaster and previously painted surfaces. I made sure to clean the walls thoroughly before applying, and it went on smoothly without any issues. The key is in the preparation!

I tried Auro in my bathroom last year, and while I love their commitment to sustainability, I did notice some mildew spots after about 6 months. It might have been due to poor ventilation, though. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

@SunnyDaze47 That’s interesting. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Auro in high humidity areas. Maybe ventilation plays a bigger role than we think. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks for sharing!

Has anyone tried BioShield’s Aqua Resin line? I’ve been considering it for my bathroom but can’t find much info on its performance in high humidity.

@OceanBreeze23 I haven’t tried the Aqua Resin line yet, but I’m curious too. If anyone has experience with it, please share!

I’m all about Eco Paints for their low VOC content and eco-friendly practices. Used their Bathroom Paint in my ensuite, and it’s been fantastic. No mildew, and it’s easy to clean. Plus, knowing it’s better for the environment makes me feel good about my choice.

@GreenThumbJenny It worked well on both surfaces for me. Just make sure to prep the walls properly. A good clean and maybe a light sanding on the previously painted areas did the trick for me.

Interesting to hear about Earthborn. I went with Auro for my bathroom because I read somewhere that their natural paints have excellent breathability, which is supposed to help with moisture. It’s been about 8 months, and so far, so good. No mildew issues, and the color hasn’t faded. I’m curious though, how does Earthborn handle color retention over time?

I tried BioShield in my bathroom, and while it’s been okay, I did notice some slight discoloration in areas that get a lot of steam. It’s not super noticeable, but it’s there. I’m thinking of trying Earthborn next time based on your recommendation. Do you find it easy to clean? My bathroom walls tend to get splashed a lot.

I’m all about Eco Paints for their commitment to sustainability. They use renewable resources and have a low environmental impact. I used their Aqua Gloss in my bathroom, and it’s been holding up against humidity pretty well. No mildew, and it’s been easy to clean. Has anyone else tried their products? I’m curious about how they compare to Earthborn and Auro in terms of durability.

I’ve been on the fence about switching to natural paints because of the cost. Earthborn and Auro seem to be on the pricier side. For those of you who’ve made the switch, do you think the benefits outweigh the cost? Also, how do these paints perform in terms of coverage? I hate having to do multiple coats.

I’ve actually used BioShield’s Aqua Resin in my bathroom last year. It’s been holding up pretty well against the humidity, no signs of mildew yet. The finish is nice too, gives a bit of a sheen without being too glossy. Only thing is, it took a bit longer to dry than I expected, so just make sure you’ve got good ventilation.

Interesting to hear about the drying time. I went with Earthborn for my bathroom and it dried super quick, which was a relief. Their Eggshell No.17 has been great for humidity, and it’s got this really matte finish that hides imperfections well. Plus, their eco-credentials are solid, which was a big plus for me.

I tried Auro in my bathroom, and while it’s definitely eco-friendly, I found it didn’t hold up as well as I hoped in high humidity. Started seeing some mildew spots after a few months. Maybe it’s just my bathroom’s ventilation, but I’m considering switching to something else. Anyone else had better luck with Auro?

I haven’t tried Auro, but I’ve been using Eco Paints in my bathroom for over two years now, and it’s been fantastic. No mildew, and the color hasn’t faded at all. It’s a bit pricier, but for me, it’s worth it for the durability and low environmental impact. They also have a great range of colors, which was a bonus.
