Hey everyone!
I’m in the middle of transforming my little one’s room into a more vibrant and eco-friendly space. I’ve been on a journey to switch to more sustainable living practices, and this includes the paints we use at home. Recently, I tried Earthborn’s Claypaint for a feature wall in our living room, and I was blown away by its coverage and the fact that it’s VOC-free, making it a safer choice for indoor air quality. It got me thinking about what other options are out there, especially for a child’s room where safety and non-toxicity are paramount.
I’m particularly interested in paints that not only are VOC-free but also use natural pigments for color. I’ve heard good things about Auro’s natural paints, especially their range of plant-based pigments. Has anyone used Auro or any other brand that offers a wide palette of natural, vibrant colors? How was your experience with application and durability, especially on surfaces like plaster or wood?
Also, I’m curious about the environmental impact of these paints beyond just being VOC-free. How do they fare in terms of production sustainability and packaging? I’d love to hear your thoughts and recommendations. Let’s share our experiences and help each other make more informed, eco-conscious choices for our homes.

I’ve been using Auro’s natural paints for a couple of years now, and I must say, their plant-based pigments are fantastic for creating vibrant, yet safe spaces. I used their paints in my daughter’s nursery, and the colors are still as vivid as the day I applied them. The application was smooth, and it adhered well to both plaster and wood surfaces. Plus, knowing it’s VOC-free gives me peace of mind about the air quality in her room.

@GreenThumb88 That’s great to hear! How did you find the drying time compared to conventional paints? I’m a bit concerned about the practicality, especially with a toddler running around.

@EcoPainterJane The drying time was a bit longer than conventional paints, but not by much. I’d say it was touch dry in about 4-6 hours, but I waited 24 hours before letting my daughter back into the room, just to be safe. It’s a small trade-off for the peace of mind it brings.

I just wanted to share a quick tip for anyone considering natural paints: always do a patch test! I learned this the hard way when the color I chose looked completely different on my wall than it did on the swatch. Natural pigments can vary a lot depending on the surface and lighting.

I’m all for eco-friendly paints, but I’m curious about their durability, especially in high-traffic areas like a child’s room. Has anyone had issues with scuffs or marks that are hard to clean off?

@DIYQueen I haven’t had any major issues with durability. The Auro paint in my daughter’s room has held up well against crayons and sticky fingers. A damp cloth usually does the trick for cleaning. However, I did apply a natural wax finish over the paint for extra protection, which might have helped.

I’ve been on the lookout for eco-friendly paints too and stumbled upon Biofa’s natural paints. They’re not only VOC-free but also boast a range of beautiful, natural colors derived from minerals and plants. I used their paint for a bookshelf project, and it turned out great. The finish was smooth, and it’s held up well over time. Definitely worth checking out if you’re exploring options beyond Auro.

That’s interesting about Auro’s paints. I’ve been curious about the durability of natural paints, especially in high-traffic areas like a child’s room. Has anyone tried using these paints on furniture or toys? I’m thinking of repainting some old wooden toys and want to make sure the paint can withstand a bit of rough play.
I’ve used Ecos Paints for my kid’s room and was really impressed. They offer a wide range of colors, all VOC-free and made with natural pigments. The application was a breeze, and it dried quickly. Plus, their commitment to sustainability is commendable. They use recycled packaging and have a low carbon footprint. It’s been a year, and the walls still look fresh and vibrant.

Speaking of sustainability, does anyone know how these natural paint brands handle their waste and by-products? I’m all for using eco-friendly paints, but I’m also concerned about the environmental impact of their production processes. It would be great to support brands that are truly green from start to finish.

Patch testing is such a crucial step that often gets overlooked. I remember choosing a beautiful sage green from a natural paint brand, only to find it turned out more like a murky olive on my walls. Lighting really does play tricks with natural pigments. It’s worth the extra effort to see how the color behaves in your space before committing.

It’s great to see more people turning towards eco-friendly options for their homes. Beyond the paint itself, consider the impact of the tools you use for application. Opting for brushes and rollers made from sustainable materials can further reduce your environmental footprint. It’s all about making small changes that add up to a big difference.

I’ve used Auro’s natural paints in my kid’s room and honestly, the durability surprised me. We’ve had a few scuffs here and there, but nothing a damp cloth couldn’t handle. The colors stayed vibrant, and I felt good knowing it was safe for my little one. Definitely recommend giving it a try.
Durability is a big concern for me too. I went with Earthborn’s Claypaint for my daughter’s room, and it’s held up pretty well against her artistic endeavors. The key is in the prep work, though. Make sure the surface is well-prepared, and you shouldn’t have major issues with scuffs or marks.
