Non-toxic paint options: Why I switched to clay paint for my smooth walls

Hey everyone! :herb: I recently took on the challenge of repainting my living room and decided it was the perfect time to explore more eco-friendly options. After some research and a bit of trial and error, I landed on clay paint for my smooth walls. The brand I chose was Earthborn Paints, known for their breathable, eco-friendly formulas.

What drew me to clay paint was its natural composition and the fact that it’s free from harmful chemicals. Plus, the texture and finish it gives are just beautiful—it really brings a warm, natural feel to the room. Before this, I had tried a couple of other eco-friendly paints, including a milk paint for a piece of furniture, which was great but not quite what I was looking for for my walls. The application process was surprisingly smooth, and the coverage was excellent, even on the first coat.

I’m curious, has anyone else here made the switch to clay paint or other natural paint options? How did you find the application process, and what surfaces have you used it on? Also, for those who are considering it, what environmental factors are most important to you when choosing a paint? Let’s share our experiences and tips! :earth_africa::art:

I’ve been using clay paint for a couple of years now, and I absolutely love it! The texture and depth it adds to walls are unmatched. I used Earthborn Paints as well, and I was impressed by how easy it was to apply. It covered my walls beautifully in just two coats. The fact that it’s eco-friendly and non-toxic is a huge plus for me, especially since I have pets. Has anyone tried it on textured walls? I’m curious about how it performs compared to smooth surfaces.

I’m considering switching to clay paint for my home renovation project. The environmental aspect is crucial for me, but I’m also concerned about durability. How does it hold up over time, especially in high-traffic areas? Also, does anyone have recommendations for other eco-friendly brands besides Earthborn Paints?

@NatureLover23 I’ve been using Auro Natural Paints for my living room and hallway, and I’m really happy with the results. It’s been over a year, and the paint still looks fresh, even in areas that get a lot of foot traffic. I chose it because it’s made from natural ingredients and has minimal environmental impact. As for durability, I think it’s comparable to conventional paints, but with the added benefit of being eco-friendly.

I tried clay paint for my kids’ playroom, and it’s been a game-changer! Not only is it safe and non-toxic, but the color options are fantastic. I went with a soft green that really brightens up the space. Cleaning is a breeze too—any marks or stains wipe off easily without damaging the paint. For anyone on the fence about trying natural paints, I say go for it!

I’m all for eco-friendly options, but I’m curious about the cost comparison between clay paint and traditional paints. Is it significantly more expensive? Also, how does the coverage compare? I’m planning to repaint my apartment and want to make an informed decision.

@UrbanJungleFan In my experience, clay paint can be a bit more expensive upfront, but the coverage is excellent, so you might end up using less paint overall. Plus, considering the environmental benefits and the unique finish it provides, I think it’s worth the investment. It’s also worth checking if there are any local suppliers or discounts available to help offset the cost.

I tried clay paint on textured walls in my hallway, and honestly, it was a bit of a challenge. The texture seemed to soak up more paint, so it took an extra coat to get good coverage. But the end result was worth it. The walls have this beautiful, matte finish that really complements the texture. If you’re thinking about it, just be prepared for a bit more work.

That’s interesting about the textured walls. I’ve only used clay paint on smooth surfaces so far, and it’s been a breeze. I love how it dries to a soft, velvety finish. It’s also held up really well over time, with no chipping or fading. I’m curious, has anyone tried mixing colors with clay paint? I’m thinking of creating a custom shade for my kitchen but not sure how it would turn out.

I tried clay paint in my bedroom last year, and I have to say, the difference in air quality was noticeable almost immediately. It’s great for anyone with allergies or sensitivities. The only downside I found was that the color palette seemed a bit limited compared to conventional paints. Did you find a wide range of colors with Earthborn Paints?
