How to choose the right natural paint for a child's room?

Hey everyone! :herb: I’m in the middle of renovating my little one’s room and I’ve decided to go all-natural with the paint this time around. I’ve been experimenting with eco-friendly paints for a while now, and I’m really excited about the possibilities. But, as you can imagine, choosing the right one for a child’s room is a bit of a puzzle. I want something that’s not only safe for the environment but also durable and easy to clean (because, well, kids will be kids).

So far, I’ve tried EarthHue Natural Paint(https://www.earthhue.com) in my living room and was pretty impressed with its coverage and the fact that it’s made from natural minerals and plant dyes. But I’m curious, has anyone else used this brand or others like BioShield(https://www.bioshieldpaint.com) or Eco Paints(https://www.ecopaints.com) in a child’s room? How did it hold up against the inevitable crayon masterpieces and sticky fingerprints?

Also, I’m a bit torn between going for a matte finish for that soft, cozy vibe or a satin finish for easier cleaning. What’s your experience with different finishes in kids’ rooms? And, importantly, how do you balance environmental considerations with practicality when it comes to natural paints?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences! Let’s make our kids’ rooms not just safe and beautiful, but also kind to our planet. :earth_africa::green_heart:

Hey @EcoPainterJane! :seedling: I recently used BioShield in my toddler’s room and I’m really happy with the results. It’s held up surprisingly well against the usual wear and tear. I went with a satin finish for easier cleaning, and it’s been a breeze to wipe off crayon marks and sticky fingerprints. Plus, knowing it’s made from natural ingredients gives me peace of mind. Have you considered the VOC levels in the paints you’re looking at? That’s something I paid close attention to.

Thanks for the input, @GreenThumb88! VOC levels are definitely on my radar. I’m glad to hear BioShield has worked well for you. How did you find the color selection? I’m aiming for something vibrant but still natural-looking.

I’ve been a fan of Eco Paints for a while now. Their commitment to sustainability is impressive, and their paints are incredibly durable. I used their matte finish in my child’s room, and while it’s a bit more challenging to clean, the aesthetic is unmatched. It really depends on what you prioritize more: ease of cleaning or the look and feel of the room. Either way, you’re making a great choice for the planet!

@NatureLover23, that’s a great point about balancing aesthetics with practicality. I’m leaning towards a satin finish for the cleanability, but I do love the soft look of matte. How has the matte finish held up over time? Any tips for maintenance?

I haven’t tried the brands you mentioned, but I used a local brand’s natural paint for my kids’ rooms. It’s been fantastic! The key for me was applying a clear, natural sealant over the paint. It’s made cleaning much easier without compromising the paint’s eco-friendliness. Maybe that’s an option worth exploring?

@DIYQueen, that’s an interesting approach! I hadn’t considered a sealant. Do you have any recommendations for natural sealants that work well with eco-friendly paints?
