Hey everyone!
I’ve been diving deep into the world of natural paints for my home renovation project, and I’ve hit a bit of a snag with my bathroom. I’m determined to use eco-friendly options, but I’m also keen on preventing mold and mildew, which, as we all know, bathrooms are notorious for. I’ve been experimenting with Earthborn Claypaint for its breathability and natural ingredients, which I’ve read can help prevent mold by allowing walls to breathe. So far, I’ve used it in my living room with great results, but the bathroom is a whole different ball game due to the moisture.
I’m curious, has anyone else tried using natural paints in high-moisture areas like bathrooms? Specifically, I’m looking for tips on application techniques that might help enhance the mold-resistant properties of natural paints. For instance, should I be applying multiple coats, or is there a specific primer that works best with natural paints to boost their resistance to mold? Also, any recommendations on brands that have worked well for you in similar conditions would be incredibly helpful.
Lastly, I’m all about minimizing environmental impact, so if you’ve got any insights on how to dispose of leftover paint or clean brushes in an eco-friendly way, I’d love to hear about that too. Let’s share our experiences and help each other make our homes both beautiful and sustainable!

Hey @EcoPainterJane, great topic! I’ve used Earthborn Claypaint in my bathroom as well, and I found that applying two thin coats worked best for me. The key is to ensure each coat is completely dry before applying the next. This really helps with the breathability aspect, which is crucial for mold prevention. Also, I used a natural primer from the same brand, which seemed to enhance the paint’s natural resistance to moisture. For eco-friendly cleanup, I use warm soapy water and a little vinegar for my brushes. It works like a charm!

I’m curious about the ventilation in your bathroom, @EcoPainterJane. Even with the best natural paints, poor ventilation can lead to mold issues. Have you considered installing an extractor fan if you don’t already have one? Also, I’ve heard good things about Auro Natural Paints for high-moisture areas. They have a specific bathroom paint that’s supposed to be excellent for preventing mold.

Thanks for the tips, @GreenThumb88! I’ll definitely try the two thin coats method and look into their natural primer. I hadn’t thought about using vinegar for cleanup, but that’s a great idea. I’m all for using what I already have at home to minimize waste.

Hi @SandyShorelines, you’re absolutely right about ventilation. I do have an extractor fan, but I’m considering upgrading it for better efficiency. Thanks for the recommendation on Auro Natural Paints; I’ll check them out. Have you used their bathroom paint yourself?

Just a quick tip from my experience: make sure to clean the walls thoroughly before applying any paint. I used a mix of water and baking soda to scrub the walls in my bathroom before painting with Biofa Natural Paints. It helped remove any existing mold spores and gave the paint a better surface to adhere to. Also, Biofa has a great range of eco-friendly paints that are perfect for bathrooms.
