Hey everyone!
I’ve been on a mission to make my home as eco-friendly as possible, and my latest project has been repainting my kids’ rooms. I wanted to share my journey and hear about your experiences too! I started with Earthborn Claypaint, which I found to be a fantastic option. It’s VOC-free, has a beautiful matte finish, and the colors are so vibrant. Plus, it’s breathable, which is great for old houses like mine that need to manage moisture well.
Before settling on Earthborn, I tried Auro Natural Paints. They’re also non-toxic and have a wide range of colors, but I found the application a bit trickier. It required more coats for full coverage, which was a bit of a learning curve for me. However, the environmental credentials are impeccable, and it’s made from renewable raw materials.
I’m curious, what non-toxic paints have you used in your children’s rooms? How did you find the application process? And importantly, how have they held up over time with the inevitable crayon and marker tests? Let’s share our stories and tips to help each other create safer, more sustainable spaces for our little ones!
I recently used BioShield Clay Paint in my daughter’s room and was really impressed! It’s non-toxic, VOC-free, and the application was a breeze. The colors are so rich and it has this beautiful, natural matte finish. Plus, it’s held up surprisingly well against my toddler’s artistic endeavors. Highly recommend giving it a try!

@GreenThumb88 That’s great to hear! I’ve been curious about BioShield. How many coats did you need for full coverage? And did you use any special primer or just go straight on with the paint?

@EcoPainterJane I used two coats for full coverage, and I didn’t need any special primer. The paint adhered really well to the walls. I did make sure the walls were clean and dry before starting, though. It’s been a few months now, and it still looks as good as new!

I went with Ecos Organic Paint for my son’s room. It’s another great non-toxic option, and I was drawn to its eco-friendly credentials. The application was straightforward, though it did take a bit longer to dry than I expected. The finish is lovely, and it’s been easy to clean any marks off. Definitely a fan!

@NatureLover23 I’ve heard good things about Ecos! How does it handle moisture? My house is a bit older, and I need something that can breathe well.

@EcoPainterJane It’s been great with moisture! No issues at all, and it seems to breathe really well. We’ve had a few damp mornings, but no signs of mold or peeling. It’s definitely worth considering for older homes.

Has anyone tried Aglaia Natural Paints? I’m considering it for my nursery but haven’t found many reviews. Looking for something safe and durable, with a nice finish.

@SunnyDaysAhead I haven’t tried Aglaia myself, but I’ve heard it’s quite good. It’s made with natural ingredients and is supposed to be very safe for nurseries. Maybe someone else here has firsthand experience?

Just wanted to share a quick tip for anyone using natural paints: make sure to ventilate the room well during and after painting. Even though these paints are non-toxic, the smell can still be strong. I learned this the hard way with Auro Natural Paints!

@LeafyGreen Great tip! Ventilation is so important. I remember the first time I used natural paint, I was surprised by the smell too. It’s a good reminder for everyone to keep windows open and maybe use a fan.

I’m all about Earthborn Claypaint too! Used it in my living room and now planning to use it in the kids’ rooms. The breathability factor is a game-changer for our old house. Plus, it’s so easy to touch up if needed. Anyone else love Earthborn as much as I do?

@EcoPainterJane I’m leaning towards soft greens and blues. Something calming but still fun for the kids. Earthborn’s color range is so inspiring, it’s hard to choose!

Has anyone had experience with Lime Paint for kids’ rooms? I’m intrigued by its natural antibacterial properties but worried about the application process. Any insights would be appreciated!

I actually used Aglaia Natural Paints for my baby’s nursery last year and I was pretty happy with it. The application was smooth, and it dried quickly without any strong odors, which was a big plus for me. The finish is nice and matte, and it’s held up well against the occasional bump and scrape. I haven’t tried drawing on it with crayons or markers, though, so I can’t speak to that. Overall, I’d recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for something safe and eco-friendly.

I haven’t tried Aglaia, but I’ve been using ECOS Paints for my kids’ rooms and it’s been great. It’s non-toxic, zero VOC, and the colors are really vibrant. The best part is how easy it is to clean. My toddler decided to use the wall as a canvas, and I was able to wipe it clean without any issues. It might be worth looking into if you’re still exploring options. Also, curious if anyone has tips on how to remove crayon from walls without damaging the paint?

I actually used Lime Paint in my daughter’s room last year. The antibacterial aspect was a big plus for me, especially with kids being, well, kids. Application was a bit of a challenge at first, but once I got the hang of it, it wasn’t too bad. The key is to apply it thinly and evenly. It’s held up surprisingly well against the usual wear and tear. Definitely worth considering if you’re okay with a bit of a learning curve.

I’ve heard about Lime Paint but never tried it myself. I went with Milk Paint for my son’s room. It’s non-toxic and has a really unique, vintage look. The application was straightforward, and it’s been durable. Plus, it’s eco-friendly, which was a big factor for me. Might be something to look into if you’re exploring options.
