Hey fellow eco-warriors! I’ve recently embarked on a mission to repaint my living room with the most sustainable options out there. After some research, I narrowed it down to BioShield and Earthborn paints. Both brands boast impressive eco-credentials, but I wanted to share my hands-on experience and hear your thoughts too.
First up, BioShield. I was drawn to their clay paints for their natural ingredients and the promise of a breathable finish. I used their Clay Paint in a soft, earthy tone on my plaster walls, and the application was a dream. It went on smoothly, and the coverage was excellent. The paint dried to a beautiful, matte finish that really brought out the texture of the walls. Plus, the lack of VOCs meant I could paint without worrying about air quality.
On the other hand, Earthborn’s Eggshell No.17 was my choice for the woodwork. Their paints are also VOC-free and made with natural ingredients. The finish was slightly more durable, which is perfect for areas that need to withstand a bit more wear and tear. The color depth was fantastic, and it adhered beautifully to the wood without any primer.
Both brands have their merits, but I’m curious about your experiences. Have you tried either of these brands? How did you find the application and durability? Also, if you’ve used them on different surfaces, how did they perform? Let’s share our eco-friendly painting journeys and help each other make greener choices!
Great review, @GreenThumbJenny! I’ve also used BioShield’s Clay Paint and was impressed by its breathability and how it enhances wall textures. However, I found that it required a bit more maintenance in high-traffic areas. Have you noticed any issues with durability over time?
I’m a big fan of Earthborn paints! Their Eggshell finish is indeed durable and perfect for woodwork. I used it on my kitchen cabinets, and it’s held up really well against moisture and grease. Plus, the color range is fantastic. @GreenThumbJenny, did you find the color matching process easy with Earthborn?
@EcoPainterDave, thanks for your input! I haven’t had the BioShield paint up long enough to comment on long-term durability, but I’ll keep an eye on those high-traffic areas. It’s good to know what to expect!
@NatureLover77, I completely agree about Earthborn’s color range! I found their color matching process to be quite straightforward. Their website has a great tool for visualizing colors, which helped a lot. It’s reassuring to hear your cabinets are holding up well; that’s a great testament to the paint’s quality.
I’ve been on the fence about trying natural paints, but your review has convinced me to give BioShield a go for my next project. The idea of a breathable finish is particularly appealing for my old house with plaster walls. Any tips for first-time users?
@DIYQueen, that’s great to hear! For first-time users, I’d recommend thoroughly cleaning your walls beforehand and applying a primer if you’re transitioning from a non-natural paint. BioShield’s application is pretty straightforward, but taking your time to ensure even coverage makes a big difference. Good luck with your project!
Has anyone tried using these paints on exterior surfaces? I’m curious about their performance against weather elements. Both BioShield and Earthborn sound promising, but I’m leaning towards Earthborn for its durability claims.
@SustainableSam, I’ve used BioShield on an exterior wall, and while it held up well initially, I noticed some fading after a couple of years. I haven’t tried Earthborn outside, but based on their indoor performance, it might be worth a shot for better longevity.
Hey @GreenThumbJenny, thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve been on the fence about trying BioShield, but your review has me leaning towards giving it a shot. I’m curious, though, about the color options. Did you find their palette to be versatile enough for different room aesthetics?
I’ve used Earthborn paints before, and I have to say, their durability is top-notch. I painted my kitchen cabinets with their eggshell finish, and it’s held up really well against daily wear and tear. @GreenThumbJenny, have you considered using Earthborn for walls as well, or do you think BioShield has the upper hand there?
Interesting points about both brands. I’m all for eco-friendly options, but I’m also concerned about the cost. @GreenThumbJenny, did you notice a significant price difference between BioShield and Earthborn? I’m trying to balance sustainability with my budget.
I’ve been using BioShield for a while now, and while I love the eco-friendly aspect, I agree that it might need a bit more care in high-traffic areas. @GreenThumbJenny, have you tried any specific maintenance tips to keep the paint looking fresh over time?
Great discussion! I’m planning to repaint my home office and was considering both brands. @GreenThumbJenny, since you’ve used both, which one would you recommend for a room that gets a lot of natural light? I’m worried about colors fading over time.
I’ve been using BioShield for a while now, and I must say, their clay paint is a game-changer for me. The texture it gives to the walls is just unmatched. I used it in my bedroom, and it feels like I’m sleeping in a cozy, earthy cocoon every night. Has anyone else tried their other products like the milk paint?
Earthborn’s Eggshell finish is a winner in my book. I used it on my bathroom cabinets, and it’s been holding up against the humidity like a champ. The color I chose has stayed vibrant, and it was super easy to clean when I accidentally splashed some toothpaste on it. @EcoPainter, how did you find the cleaning process with BioShield?
I’m all about that eco-friendly life, and choosing between BioShield and Earthborn was tough. I ended up going with Earthborn for the living room because of the color range. It was a breeze to find the perfect shade. But I’m curious, has anyone tried mixing colors from these brands to create custom shades?
Just finished painting my home office with BioShield’s clay paint, and I’m in love. The matte finish is exactly what I wanted, and the application was so smooth. It’s been a week, and the color looks as fresh as day one. @ColorLover, mixing colors sounds like a fun project. Did you face any challenges?
I’ve been on the fence about trying these eco-friendly paints, but your experiences are convincing me to take the plunge. I’m particularly interested in how these paints perform in high-traffic areas. Has anyone used them in hallways or kids’ rooms? How’s the durability?
I used Earthborn in my kid’s playroom, and it’s been fantastic. The paint has withstood crayons, markers, and even some accidental spills. Cleaning is straightforward, and the colors haven’t faded. It’s reassuring to know I’m using something safe and durable. @EcoNewbie, you should definitely give it a try!
