Discovering the Benefits of Clay Paint in My Eco-Friendly Home Makeover

Hey everyone! :herb: I’ve recently embarked on a journey to make my home more eco-friendly, and one of the first steps I took was to switch to natural paints. After some research, I stumbled upon clay paint and decided to give it a try for my living room walls. I went with Earthborn Claypaint, known for its minimal environmental impact and breathable qualities, which is perfect for my old, slightly damp walls.

Applying the clay paint was a bit different from what I was used to with conventional paints. The texture is thicker, and it required a bit more elbow grease to get an even coat, but the result was absolutely worth it. The walls have this beautiful, matte finish that really brings out the natural light in the room. Plus, knowing that I’m not releasing harmful VOCs into my home or the environment gives me peace of mind.

I’m curious, has anyone else here tried clay paint or other natural paint alternatives in their homes? How was your experience with application and durability? Also, for those who have worked with different surfaces, do you find clay paint to be versatile enough for various wall types? Let’s share our stories and tips for a greener home makeover!

Hey @GreenThumbGary, your living room sounds amazing! I’ve also been exploring natural paints and recently used Auro Clay Paint in my bedroom. The application was indeed different, but I found that using a natural bristle brush helped a lot with the texture. It’s been a few months, and the color still looks vibrant. Have you noticed any fading with Earthborn Claypaint?

@EcoWarriorEmma, thanks for sharing your experience! I haven’t noticed any fading yet, but it’s only been a couple of months. I’ll keep an eye on it and report back. Using a natural bristle brush is a great tip; I’ll have to try that next time!

I’m considering clay paint for my kitchen. Does anyone know if it’s resistant to moisture and easy to clean? I’m worried about splashes and stains.

@NatureLoverNate, clay paint is breathable, which is great for moisture, but it might not be the best for high-splash areas like kitchens. You might want to look into a natural paint with a protective top coat for those areas. Earthborn offers a range of products that might suit your needs better.

I’ve been using Biofa Natural Paints for my entire house, and I’m thrilled with the results. The colors are rich, and the paint is incredibly durable. It’s a bit pricier, but for me, the environmental benefits and the quality are worth it. Has anyone else tried Biofa?

@SustainableSally, I haven’t tried Biofa yet, but I’ve heard great things about it. The price point is a bit higher, but like you said, the quality and eco-friendliness make it worth considering for future projects. Thanks for the recommendation!

Just a quick tip for anyone considering clay paint: make sure your walls are properly prepared. I learned the hard way that clay paint doesn’t hide imperfections as well as some other paints. A good primer and some wall prep can make a big difference in the final look.

@DIYDan, that’s a great point! I spent a weekend filling in holes and sanding down my walls before applying the Earthborn Claypaint. It was a bit of extra work, but the smooth finish was definitely worth it. Preparation is key!

I haven’t tried clay paint yet, but your experience is making me consider it for my next project. I’m curious about the coverage. Did you find that you needed more coats compared to regular paint? Also, how does it handle touch-ups? I’m a bit clumsy, so that’s a big factor for me.

I used clay paint in my kitchen, and I love the matte finish it gave. However, I did notice that it’s a bit more susceptible to marks and stains. I’m wondering if anyone has tips for cleaning clay-painted walls without damaging the finish?

I’ve been using Earthborn Claypaint for a couple of years now in various rooms, and I’ve been really happy with it. The colors have stayed true, and I haven’t noticed any fading. It’s great to hear others are having good experiences too. For those considering it, I’d say go for it, especially if you’re looking for an eco-friendly option.

I’m intrigued by the idea of using clay paint, especially for its eco-friendly benefits. Does anyone know if it’s suitable for exterior walls as well? I’m planning to repaint my house and would love to use something that’s better for the environment but still durable against the elements.

I’ve been curious about Biofa Natural Paints too. The price point has been a bit of a hurdle for me, but hearing about the durability and color richness from someone who’s actually used it is reassuring. Did you find that it covered well, or did it require multiple coats? Also, how does it handle over time with cleaning and wear?

Switching to eco-friendly paints is such a game-changer, isn’t it? I went with Auro for my kitchen and bathroom, and the difference in air quality was noticeable almost immediately. It’s a bit more work to apply, but like you said, the benefits far outweigh the effort. Have you noticed any changes in your home’s air quality since switching to Biofa?

I haven’t tried Biofa yet, but I’m all for natural paints. I used Eco Paints in my kid’s room, and it’s held up surprisingly well against crayons and sticky fingers. The application was smoother than I expected, though it did take a bit longer to dry. How does Biofa compare in terms of drying time and ease of application?

It’s great to see more people turning to natural paints. I experimented with Clayworks for a feature wall in my living room, and the texture it adds is incredible. It’s like the wall has come to life. I’m curious, with Biofa, have you tried any textured finishes, or is it more suited to smooth applications?

I totally get what you’re saying about wall prep. When I tried clay paint in my bedroom, I skipped the primer thinking it wouldn’t make much difference. Big mistake. The paint highlighted every little flaw. Next time, I’m definitely taking the time to prep properly. It’s a game-changer for sure.

Clay paint is amazing for its eco-friendly benefits, but I found it a bit tricky to work with on textured walls. It seemed to settle into the grooves more, making the texture stand out even more. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it works best on smoother surfaces. Anyone else have this experience?
