Hey everyone!
I wanted to share my experience with natural paints after using them in my home renovation project last year. I was determined to find eco-friendly alternatives that didn’t compromise on quality or durability. After some research, I settled on a couple of brands: Earthborn and Auro. Both promised low VOCs and were made from natural ingredients, which was exactly what I was looking for.
Over the past year, I’ve used Earthborn’s Claypaint in my living room and Auro’s Plant-based paint in the bedroom. The Claypaint has a beautiful matte finish and has held up really well against everyday wear and tear. The Auro paint, on the other hand, gave a slightly glossier finish and was a bit more challenging to apply, but the color depth is incredible.
One thing I noticed is that both paints required a bit more prep work than conventional paints, especially on previously painted walls. But the effort was worth it for the peace of mind knowing I’m not exposing my family to harmful chemicals. Plus, the natural pigments have a richness that synthetic colors just can’t match.
I’m curious to hear from others who’ve used natural paints. How have they held up in your homes? Any tips for application or brands you swear by? Let’s discuss!

Great post, @EcoPainter123! I’ve also been on the lookout for eco-friendly paint options and your experience with Earthborn and Auro is super helpful. I’m particularly interested in the Claypaint’s durability. Did you find it easy to clean? I have kids, so that’s a big factor for me.

I’ve used Auro in my kitchen and I agree, the color depth is amazing! However, I did find that it took a bit longer to dry than expected. Did you experience this as well, @EcoPainter123? Also, any tips on speeding up the drying process without compromising the paint’s eco-friendliness?

Thanks, @GreenThumb88! The Claypaint has been surprisingly easy to clean. I’ve managed to wipe off most marks with just a damp cloth. It’s held up really well against my toddler’s ‘art projects’!

@NatureLover99, yes, I did notice that Auro took a bit longer to dry. I found that ensuring good ventilation and using a dehumidifier helped speed up the process. Just make sure not to use any chemical-based dehumidifiers to keep it eco-friendly!

I’m just starting my journey with natural paints and this thread is gold! @EcoPainter123, how did you find the coverage with Earthborn? I’m worried about having to do multiple coats, which could get pricey.

@DIYQueen, I was pleasantly surprised by the coverage of Earthborn. I only needed two coats for a solid finish, even over a darker color. It’s definitely worth the investment for the quality and peace of mind it brings.

Has anyone tried mixing brands? I’m curious if Earthborn and Auro could be used together for different effects. Or is that a big no-no in the natural paint world?
@SunnyDays, I haven’t tried mixing them myself, but I’ve heard from others that it’s possible as long as both paints are water-based. Just make sure to do a patch test first to see how they interact!

Hey, I’ve been using Earthborn’s Claypaint in my kitchen for about six months now, and I gotta say, it’s been a breeze to clean. I’ve got two little ones who love to ‘help’ with the cooking, so you can imagine the mess. A damp cloth usually does the trick for most spills and splatters. It’s held up really well, no fading or peeling so far. Definitely recommend it for high-traffic areas.

I tried Auro’s Plant-based paint in my home office, and while the application was a bit tricky, the end result was worth it. The color is so vibrant and has this depth that really changes with the light throughout the day. As for cleaning, I haven’t had to do much since it’s not a high-traffic area, but the few times I’ve wiped it down, it’s been fine. Just make sure you use a soft cloth to avoid any scratches.

Interesting to hear about your experiences with natural paints. I’ve been considering switching to something more eco-friendly for my next project. How do these paints handle moisture? I’m thinking of using them in the bathroom, but I’m worried about mold and mildew. Any insights on that would be super helpful.

Hey @EcoPainter123, I’ve been using Earthborn for a while now and I gotta say, the coverage is pretty solid. I usually do two coats, but that’s pretty standard for any paint, right? The key is in the prep work. Make sure your walls are clean and smooth before you start. It really makes a difference. Also, the color stays vibrant for ages, which is a huge plus.

I tried Auro in my kitchen and the coverage was a bit hit or miss. Some walls needed three coats to get an even finish, which was a bit of a pain. But, the colors are so rich and natural, it’s worth the extra effort. Plus, knowing it’s better for the environment makes me feel good about the choice. Just be prepared for a bit more work.

Just jumping in to say, I’ve experimented with both brands and found that Earthborn tends to cover better on lighter colors. Darker shades might need an extra coat, but that’s pretty common across the board. Auro’s plant-based paint has this amazing depth of color, though. It’s like the walls come alive. Definitely worth considering what’s more important to you, coverage or color depth.

Mixing brands like Earthborn and Auro sounds like a fun experiment. I haven’t tried it myself, but I’d be curious to see how the different textures and finishes play off each other. Maybe start with a small section or a piece of furniture to test it out before committing to a whole wall.

I’ve mixed natural paints before, and it’s definitely doable. Just make sure you’re mixing paints with similar bases, like both being water-based. The key is to test the mix on a small area first to see how it dries and if the colors blend well together.

Honestly, I wouldn’t risk mixing brands. Each brand has its own formula, and you might end up with a finish that’s not durable or doesn’t look good. Stick to one brand per room to keep things consistent and avoid any potential issues.

I think mixing brands could lead to some unique effects, especially if you’re going for a more artistic look. Just keep in mind that natural paints can have different drying times and textures, so it might take some trial and error to get it right.

I haven’t mixed Earthborn and Auro, but I’ve layered them in the same room for different effects. It worked out great, giving the space more depth and interest. Just ensure you let each layer dry completely before applying the next.
