Hey everyone! I’m in the middle of renovating my bathroom and, as someone who’s passionate about green living, I’m on the hunt for a VOC-free paint that can stand up to the high-moisture environment. I’ve tried a couple of eco-friendly paints in the past, like Earthborn Claypaint for my living room, which was fantastic for air quality and had a beautiful matte finish. However, I’m not sure if it’s the best fit for a bathroom. I’ve also heard good things about Biofa’s Aqua Interior Paint for its durability and moisture resistance, but I haven’t had the chance to test it out yet.
I’m curious, has anyone here used a natural paint in their bathroom or any high-moisture area? How did it hold up over time? I’m particularly interested in paints that are not only VOC-free but also have some level of mold resistance, given the bathroom’s conditions. Also, any tips on surface preparation for these types of paints would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations!
Hey @EcoPainter88, I’ve been down this road before! I used Biofa’s Aqua Interior Paint in my bathroom about two years ago, and it’s been holding up really well. The key is in the preparation - make sure your walls are clean, dry, and if possible, use a primer that’s also eco-friendly. This paint has a slight sheen to it, which not only looks great but also helps in repelling moisture. It’s VOC-free and has natural ingredients that resist mold, which is a big plus for bathroom environments.

Thanks, @GreenThumb99! That’s really helpful. Did you use any specific primer with the Biofa’s Aqua Interior Paint, or would any eco-friendly primer work? Also, how many coats did you apply?

@EcoPainter88, I used Biofa’s Primer to ensure compatibility, but I think any eco-friendly primer should work as long as it’s suitable for high-moisture areas. I applied two coats for even coverage and durability. It’s been two years, and I haven’t noticed any peeling or mold, which is impressive for a bathroom!

I’ve had a great experience with Auro Natural Paints in my kitchen, which also faces high moisture. Their No. 321 - Plant-Based Paint is VOC-free and has natural anti-mold properties. It’s a bit pricier, but the quality and durability are worth it. Plus, it’s easy to clean, which is a bonus in high-moisture areas.

@LeafLover23, that’s interesting! How does the Auro Natural Paints compare in terms of application? Is it easy to work with, and how’s the drying time?

@EcoPainter88, the application is pretty straightforward. It goes on smoothly, and the drying time is reasonable - about 4-6 hours between coats. The finish is matte, which I personally love, but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s also worth noting that it has a distinct, natural smell that dissipates after drying.

I’ve been using AFM Safecoat in my bathroom for over a year now, and it’s been a game-changer. It’s not just VOC-free but also has anti-microbial properties, which is perfect for high-moisture areas. The finish is smooth, and it’s held up against steam and splashes without any issues. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something durable and eco-friendly.
I tried Ecos Paints in my kitchen, which gets pretty steamy, and it’s been fantastic. They have a specific bathroom paint that’s VOC-free and designed to resist mold and mildew. The application was smooth, and it dried quickly. Plus, the color options are great if you’re looking to add some personality to your bathroom.

I’m all about The Real Milk Paint Co. for my eco-friendly projects. They offer a VOC-free paint that can be mixed to any color you like. I used it in my bathroom, and after sealing it with their recommended sealer, it’s been holding up beautifully against moisture. It’s a bit more work with the sealing process, but the results are worth it.

I went with Benjamin Moore’s Natura line for my bathroom reno. It’s VOC-free and has a zero-VOC color system, so you’re not limited in your color choices. It’s been a couple of years, and the paint still looks fresh. It handles moisture well, and I haven’t noticed any mold or mildew issues. Plus, the application was a breeze.

I was worried about mold, but so far, so good. Just make sure you prep the walls properly, maybe even use a mold-resistant primer if you’re really concerned.

I’m all about Auro Natural Paints too, especially for high-moisture areas. Their plant-based paint not only stands up to the humidity but also adds a nice, natural aesthetic to the space. It’s true that it’s on the pricier side, but the longevity and ease of maintenance make it a solid choice for anyone looking to go green without compromising on quality.

I’ve actually used Ecos Paints in my bathroom and it’s held up pretty well. The key is in the prep work though. Make sure you clean the walls thoroughly and maybe even use a primer if you’re going over a darker color. It’s been about a year and no signs of mold or peeling, which is a big win for a bathroom. The finish is nice too, not too glossy but easy to clean.

Haven’t tried Ecos Paints myself, but I went with Biofa’s Aqua Interior Paint for my bathroom and it’s been great. It’s got this natural resistance to moisture and I haven’t seen any mold issues. The application was smooth, but like the other comment said, prep is crucial. I sanded down the walls and used a mildew-resistant primer before applying. It’s been two years and it still looks fresh. Might be worth considering if you’re looking for alternatives.
